Painting Over the Past

Description

kinda a sequel to Paint Your Own Future

We have have done things that we regret. We may have said something that is hard to take back; we may have done a deed that had a horrendous out come; we may have done something that even left scars- whether they be mental or physical. And some of you may be ashamed still of these things of the past; you may even still be suffering from them. But... there's not really any need to still be filled with so much guilt of these things. One thing that I have been taught growing up is that despite your past- despite everything you've been through- you can still move away from that. What happens in the past, while it does affect your future self physically at times, and it might even affect you mentally, but dwelling on these things won't positively affect you in the future. Dwelling on these past mistakes, these past regrets- all these things of the past- it won't do anything but make you feel more negative about yourself or about others. In "Paint Your Own Future", I spoke of how hiding your feelings doesn't do any good; it only makes you feel more alone, more sad, more shut off from others... it only affects you negatively. The same goes for the past, however. If you dwell on all these mistakes, it won't do anything for you in the long run. It will only make you feel worse and worse, the same way shutting your emotions away from the rest of the world does.

I have made mistakes, myself- haven't we all?- and I admit I am not happy with myself for these things. I do have scars from these past things, and I wish I didn't but... I am not going to let these scars weigh me down. Instead of letting these past circumstances weigh down my heart with all this guilt... all this sadness... Instead, I believe it is best to just... let it go >v>. But seriously; it is. You can let the past be a reminder to you of who you once were, but let it be a good reminder- a thing that teaches you and helps you in the future, not a thing that you just want to run from and feel guilty over (totally not based off a Lion King quote lol).  If you feel weighed down by the past... just don't. What I mean is just don't feel so saddened by it- you can't undo what has happened, but you can learn from it. Don't feel sad over that anymore; what's done is done. The question is now of if you are going to let that happen again in the future- You Paint Your Own Future, and so it's up to you to decide on how it will be. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it, as the saying goes. So... learn from your own history- learn from your past and paint over it. Don't feel that guilt you felt before. Learn from it and move on.
